Knowing where you stand before you start moving
Rank tracking is the baseline from which everything else in an SEO project is measured. Without knowing where you currently rank, you cannot measure whether any optimization work is producing results. It sounds simple, but most businesses either have no tracking in place or track the wrong keywords with the wrong settings.
The most common tracking mistakes are checking rankings for broad head terms while ignoring the long-tail queries that actually produce traffic, and tracking from a location that does not match where your customers are searching. Both problems produce data that looks fine but does not reflect what your customers are actually experiencing when they search for you.
What we set up and track
We identify the correct set of target keywords based on your keyword research and business priorities, configure tracking with the correct location settings, and set up a reporting schedule that fits how your team works. For most clients, a weekly summary is sufficient. For clients in highly competitive or fast-moving niches, daily tracking gives earlier visibility into algorithm-related position changes.
Competitor tracking as context
Position numbers alone do not tell you whether your relative performance is improving or declining. A keyword where you move from position 8 to position 6 while a competitor moves from position 3 to position 2 is a different situation from one where you moved from 8 to 6 while competitors stayed still. We track your top competitors on the same keywords so that your position data always has context.
